Is the Coast Guard extremely competitive/difficult to get in?

Been waiting forever to hear from the recruiter. Have 8 1/2 past years of Navy experience. I don't know if this will hurt me or help me? 27 yr old= no dependents.....
Mustangs: How strange because this comes directly from their website
"Many of today's Coasties have served in other U.S. military services. We offer men and women with prior service a way to put their experience and leadership to use, continue their military benefits, and serve their country.

Yes. You are not the "target" enlistee. They want Non-prior service High School grads and college students, just like any other branch.

As a Prior Service applicant, you are LOW on their priority list.

Sorry, but that's the truth.

And yes, it's competitive. With very, very few slots to fill, they don't have to take anything but the most qualified, in the right categories (not prior service - this is true for all active recruiters in any branch).

Keep trying.

Yes, it is. Alot of folks want to join to keep from deploying, yet serve in the military and check the block.

No, my brother just joined about two years ago and trust me, if they took him they will take anybody. Their boot camp is much much easier. No "confidence" chamber, lower prt standards, and ten times shorter and easier "A" schools. Your problem more then likely is that same as the NAVY, they simply are not hurting for people.

just keep calling. eventually you'll reach a recruiter with time to talk to you right then. of course they are looking for young kids just out of highschool, in college, or recently graduated from college. there is no reason why you can't join, you just need to be persistant. it seems like they want people to prove that they really want to join by making them call fifty million times. . .
