My son is very serious about the Coast Guard Academy, Any suggestions?

My 14 year old son is a freshman in high school and he so serious about the academy. I support him 100% He has been invited to the academy for his first visit for a program they call S.O.A.R (Students of All Races, Diversity Program) He understand how competitive it is, and it would be an honor to be accepted. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me what he should do to increase the chances of being accepted. He is very active in school, in leadership programs, sports and will be joining the sea cadets soon a program for 13-17 year olds, he has good grades will be playing football next year, training will start this spring. We are going to also have him tutored to well when the time to take the SAT comes up. Any other suggestions?

He's doing everything he needs to be doing. Did I miss community involvement? That is also helpful and also working political races, making himself known in the local community will also be a giant help.

You need to make contact with your state and US congressional leaders and senators and receive an appointment / recommendation. Very few recommendations are allotted, but this will assure his acceptance.

He needs to go beyond "good" grades, the need to be stellar. 4.0

I would have him talk to a recruiter now to get the information you want. Call first, and see if they would mind talking with him. My guess is that they'd be happy to.
