Can you reenlist while on light duty? (Navy Diver)?

I am currently on light duty and it doesn't look like i will be off it in the next year or two. How long can someone stay light duty before being booted and can I still re-enlist on light duty even if it looks like i am not going to come off it. Im not a malingerer this is a combat related back injury with about a 0 out of 0 chance of getting better. Also, if you know the regs or instructions containing that info that would be great. Been looking just havent seen anything yet.
