| Can't join the coast guard? What else could I join?
I'm really upset over the fact that I just got off the phone with a recruiter from the coast guard who said that because i have a misdemeanor on my background from 5 years ago, and the fact i was counseled when i WAS 16 for marijuana use I more than likely won't be able to join the coast guard. Is there ANYTHING i can do to join...i REALLY WANT TO!!  (

the Coast Guard is the LEAST lenient with any legal issues as their entire focus is on enforcing maritime Law. They are taking a grand whopping 4,000 new sailors PERIOD from 1 October 2007 to 30 September 2008. there will be, at minimum, twice that trying to get in. Army will probably take you. Navy..MAYBE. AF and Marines, probably not. |

Go Army. It is far easier to get into with a criminal background than any other branch. There are 200 jobs in the Army to choose from. So there may be a similar job that you were looking at in the Coast Gaurd. The Army also has better benefits. Check it out.

The coast guard is the STRICKTEST of all services... A HISTORY of pot and misdemeanors should not prevent you from Joining any of the other branches... Army A 1/9 7th Infantry Light Division veteran and PROUD of it!!! PS. Listen to answer #1... there is always hope and exeptions are made... but if you find they really won't take you... the Army and Air force are cool... (I have been both. I am sure the Navy and Marines are cool too... but I haven't been in those to vouch for them...). |
