Joining the Coast Guard?

Lately, I've become very interested in joining the Coast Guard for the Protection of Natural Resources. My dilemma is that I don't know when to do this. I plan on attending college for secondary education and becoming a High School teacher afterward. When would be a good time for me to join the Coast Guard; before or after college? Or any other different times given? I don't know what to do!
