What is life like for a Coast Guard pilot?

I'm thinking about joining the Coast Guard to become a pilot. I'm graduating college with a Tech Management degree in Aviation Science. I plan on enlisting in to OCS then hopefully move onto flight training. What are my chances of making it into flight training from OCS? Mostly i want to know what the life is like for Coast Guard pilots and their families. My wife is pretty nervous about me joining. What are some good things i can tell her to calm her down about the idea of me becoming a pilot? Anything would help, but I perfer those with some kind of experience with Coast Guard aviation.
