| Coast Guard?
My husband is thinking about joining the active duty Coast Guard. We have been looking on the internet, but I cannot really figure out how the living situation works and what his schedule would be like. Would it be more like a day-time job where he would come home at night? Or would it be like he was gone for weeks or months and then come home when the task was over? Or both depending on the mission? Would I move to wherever he is stationed? How often will he be moved around?

He will be entering the toughest branch to enter since the have the strictest requirements. The US Air Force is next. It means he is intelligent. To understand you can join their auxiliary and you stay a civilian. My cousin might do this, yahoo this All the way Semper Paratus!!! |

There is no set schedule in the Coast Guard. It all depends on where he gets stationed and what his duties are. If he gets stationed to a cutter he could be gone for months at a time. If he's at a small boat station or other land unit he probably will have semi-normal working hours, unless something big comes up (which is always a possibility). Keep in mind that he will have a watch schedule as well, which will at times keep him at work at night or the weekend. You can move to wherever he is stationed, unless he is stationed to a cutter, of course. The Coast Guard will pay for your housing as a married couple. Generally people get moved around every two to four years, depending on the needs of the Coast Guard. I can't tell you how often you will get to see your husband because, again, it varies form person to person. |
