Don't listen to "this is ironic", he doesn't know what he's talking about, of course women can enlist in the USCG, the training is hard as with ALL services, and like most, it's 8 weeks long, but i'm not sure how you could compare Coast Guard training to Army training, in that they train for two complete different reasons. As far as how long your in it, it's up to you, you choose when to resign.

The Coast Guard is the smallest of all the branches. But, women are in its ranks and its officer corps. A standard enlistment is for four years of active duty and four years in the reserves. However they do not have their own Nurse Corps.
The source below is a link to their recruiting web site. Good luck!

Unless your going for a rescue swimmer, its about the same as most basic training programs. Running, swimming, pushups, situps.. running to stand in line and wait..
I have 6 freinds in the Coast Guard, and all love it..

you can sign up for various time frames. it is not harder than the Army - just different. while in the COast Guard you can save money for college or even attend part time and get some of your basic classes done and then transfer to Toledo.

good luck to you
