My Questions about joining the US Airforce and Coast Guard?

I'm seventeen and a senior in high school. I'm considering ensliting in either the Airforce or Coast Guard.

My questions..

1. After enlisting, will the Airforce and/or Coast Guard provide a place to live until basic training?

2. Up until the time of basic, will i train on the weekends- like the national guard?

3. How do you gain rank in the air force/ coast guard. I've done ROTC 3 years, so that would make me an E-3. I would like to have really high rank by my retirement.

4. Does the Air Force deploy ALOT? I don't have a problem with being deployed- because i understand the overall purpose is to serve this country.

5. Does the coast guard get deployed alot?

6. Where does the air force normally deploy? What are the living arrangements like, what is a typical work day?

*and if deployed to places like germany, etc with the air force. are you allowed to venture out and do your own thing on your free time?

7. Where does the coast guard normally deploy?

These are all questions you need to discuss with the two service's recruitment officers.
1/ No
2/ No
3/ I don't think ROTC rank will count.
Promotion depends upon ability.
4/ Yes. Listen to the news and see where they are deployed.
5/ It will depend on where you are deployed and the section you are in.
6/ Same as above.
7/ Same as above, though sometimes overseas.

Air Force Answers
1. No they do not provide you with a place to stay until you go t basic training.
2. air force basic training is 6 1/2 weeks, you train everyday! Then go to tech school which it depends on your MOS how long you stay there till your first duty station.
3. To make rank you do your time in service. You test for rank starting with Ssgt. Usually you just have to wait to make rank.
4. Depends on your job if you deploy a lot. Security Forces deployes every 6 months right now.
5. don't know
6. air force deploys to locations that are needed, could be korea, afghanistan, Iraq, and other certain locations.
7. not sure
A recruiter can help you more, but the Air Force it all depends on your job on how long you deploy and etc. If you have college and did ROTC in college you could go in to the air force with an E-3 rank. Depends on what your recruiter can do for you. Everything takes time, time is your life in the air force or any military branch. You have to test and stay out of trouble. Because they will take away your pay and rank if you get in to trouble.
