Can I join get into the police department with an honorable discharge but an RE4

Coast guard discharge code.? I served in the coast guard for 4 years and was discharged for a third alchohol incident. I recieved an Honorable discharde but the discharge code is RE4. I am currently looking into joining the police police department but im worried if my discharge code will screw up my chances. If this does screw up my chances how can i make it up. as far as the incidents go i was young and stupid i just hope it doesnt screw up the rest of my life.

Ex Coasty too The exit code on your dd214 shouldnt be a problem. But if you got arrested for the alcoholic incidents, it might be. But local Law Enforcement is way more lenient than Federal Law Enforcement.

It shouldn't be a problem. Police departments accept people with various backgrounds, and if you think about, past drug users (i.e. marijuana since most people have at least tried it once.) As long as it was an honorable discharge it should be fine. Good luck to you.

I think your chances are slim. I have a friend who got a BCD from the Marines, and is not a sheriff, but that is abnormal. Good luck. Ex Costie here as well.

they dont look into your Reenlistment codes when you file your military background with a police department they just look to find out what kind of discharge you have and if you have an honorable discharge then you should be fine.
