| What are some good community service projects???? the National Junior Honor Society has recognized me and I have to right a good essay to get in. I have to answer questions in my essay and one of those questions is- What are worthwhile service projects that would benefit out school and community? I really need some ideas SOON! At this point any idea would be great but i think that if the ideas were unique, they would think im unique..... | From an animal rescuer's point of view - building a dog park. Having a can drive to raise money for an animal shelter. Supplying (and possibly building) a free roaming cat room. From a person who deals with a welfare program - any program that can help kids learn to read. Maybe a mentoring program for after school homework help - any kid welcome. Education is the key to getting out of poverty. From a humanitarian point of view - pick 5 people who have trouble getting their yard work done for one reason or another and adopt their yards. Mow, rake, mulch, water. If they want a flower garden, help them plant it and weed it. This is especially helpful for older individuals who use to be able to keep up their yards and now are having problems. From a former history teacher's point of view - the WW2 generation is rapidly dying off now. So many stories of growing up in the depression, of the war years, of the years where so much technology changed (like T.V.s, microwaves, etc.), and the traditional roles of breadwinner and housewife have merged are being lost. It would be wonderful if you guys could arm yourself with a good listening ear, a lot of questions to spark stories, and tape recorders and get some of these seniors to share their stories before it's too late. |

| it really depends on what issues pose potential problems to your community. For example i would say that if you live in an inner city setting you might want to recommend a free breakfast or afterschool program for some of the underprivileged kids you go to school with. If you live in a more affluent place, I'd say maybe landscaping and community improvement projects (e.g safety belt checks leaving the parking lot, picking up trash) would be a good option. |
