Community Service instead of Fines and Points for Speeding?

In the case of lesser moving violations like speeding under 15mph over the limit, or illegal U-turn - would anyone agree to support legislation that would have offenders perform a day or two of community service like picking up trash, assisting in a nursing home, or maintaining public property rather than pay $$$$ to support what's turning into a for-profit business for municipalities?

Municipalities & huge Insurance Conglomerates make billions of dollars from traffic law enforcement. Violators have been harnessed to supports a veritable cottage industry - from traffic schools to radar manufactures. Also it has created some of the largest Law Enforcement Officers per Capita in those districts which employ police to gain revenue the most.

I know what most PD types are going to say, but using law enforcement for the purpose of generating revenue is ethically wrong.

What would happen if everyone stopped violating traffic laws tomorrow?

You bring up a very interesting point...personally I dont get speeding fines (fuddy duddy here..lol), but if I did, I dont mind doing either, whether it be pay the fine or community service.
As for the revenue raising...well there are always going to be people who are passionate about the subject...simply, if you don't want to pay the fine, don't break the law...and the rest of us will gladly watch your dollars be put into community projects...lmao!
Your point is very valid, but I dont think people are going to stop violating traffic laws tomorrow, if they do...well I guess the govt will just have to take more money away from hospitals and education to fund the PD!!
