Don't think your grandfather's history will help with the admissions, although it might help you get the nomination letter.Overall good stuff, but the academies are VERY competitive. Do your honors courses add points to your GPA. Some senoirs get above a 4.0 because of this.Isn't 20 hours the minimum required for graduation? I mean really that's only 5 hours a year. You need to ramp that up.Other activites could help too.

On paper you look like a strong candidate for the service academies. You don't say what year in school you are; If you are just going into your junior year I recommend looking into Summer Seminar for next summer, as the Academy will get a chance to see you (and you can spend a week at Colorado Springs). Continue your academics, leadership, and athletic work and begin looking into the nomination and admissions process. Good luck!

Its a good start....your grandfather attending annapolis, not helpful in this case. Private pilot's license not helpful ....yet. 20 hours is the minimum.....You need to show more leadership ability.....do you have a leadership position on the baseball team or crew? Have you ever organized a schoolwide blood drive? Organized a clothing drive for the flood victems in Iowa? Started your own business? You stated that you are the VP of the hx club....what does that entail....can you expand on it..
