| I'm a college student fed up w/ my horrible pt retail job. Am I making the right decision by quitting?
I've been working at a clothing store for the past 10 months. It used to be okay. Now it's under new management and things are horrible. I'm sick and tired of not only that, but other things pertaining to the job as well. This meaningless minimum wage job is affecting both my mental and physical health as well. It's affecting me and those I care about.I have school fully paid for, and dorming shouldn't be an issue in the future. My school workload is now increasing because of harder classes. i plan on concentrating on my #1 priority - school, the school orginizations i'm a part of: psych club, student government, film club, etc... and community service work.I'm putting in my 2 weeks notice tonight. I'm really torn on it. Even if I am a full time student with a lot of things I want to take care of. I don't like the word unemployed. I'm sure I can find temp work or summer jobs if I need/want it. Am I making the right move?

Yes, but I recommend quitting after you have found a job that you actually like (if that job is nessesary). THat way, if you quit, and you don't get the job that you wanted, you will still have a job and some money flowing in.But, if you choose to be a full-time student, make sure you have a lot of money saved up (enough) to cover your expenses.Good luck, and I hope this helps!

I worked for Armani Exchange during my freshman year of college and hated it. I quit and never regretted it. The problem with retail jobs is that they are not tailored for college students. I would recommend finding a job on campus. They are a lot more flexible.

If you're not happy, then quit. A pt job is nothing to stress over. If you still need something to do and do not want to be considered unemployed, try getting a student worker position on campus. I work on campus at the school I attend, and I love it. They are willing to work with my school schedule, and I don't have to worry about trying to find classes that work with my work schedule.

Hell yea you are.... I would love to be in your position but need to work to pay tuition and such. Anyway, you should look into an internship that pertains to your major. It will really help you while looking for jobs when you graduate and youll figure out which aspects truly interest you! Good luck.

Maybe you can find a job or internship doing what you're majoring in. Then it might hold some meaning for you.

If anyone has ever taken my advice on something, I hope that this is the time...I strongly suggest that you quit this job, move on to focus solely on school and live healthier and happier. The reason why I am saying this is because of what my own experience has taught me. When I enter college I had a full paid scholarship with room and board. I lived in the dorm for a year and then decided that I wanted to rent an apartment with some friends, which meant that I would have to start supporting myself financially. As a result, I began to work part-time while I maintained student academic hours (i.e., over 14 credit hours). Back then I would have never thought that 10 years later I would finally go back to college to finish my degree after years of going on and off, after I lost my scholarships due to lowered grade point averages. I know it seems pretty drastic but it is what happened to me...and I blame it partly on my refusal to "put off the finer things in life ( that required money)" and focus on bettering myself throught education. The stress of working, keeping high grades, keeping up with the quality of life I wanted and other unexpected things along the way, such as life, eventually compromised my health and my mental/emotional stability. Instead of quitting work, I chose to quit school "just for a semester to get back on track"...that semester turned into years of going back and forth to school and trying to make it work exactly the same way I had been doing before, which was working and going to school. I never did get it right. It took years of getting it wrong for so long, until I finally decided how to "get it right." When I finally went back to complete my degree, I did it without working, which by that time was a heck of a lot harder financially than it would have been when I originally started off. I am proud to say that I do now have my degree and I am damn proud of it...it sure took me a lot more "life learning" to get it than educational learning. So, my advice to you is quit the damn job, don't look back and move head on into your career as a student. You won't regret it. Really, you will have much more than if you were working. Good Luck.
