How does one pay a fine when they have 0.00 ?

Hello All,My mother is an alcoholic. She doesn't know that I am aware that she had a DUI almost 2 years ago. She hit a parked vehicle (thank God not a person) and went to jail. Well her boyfriend at the time bailed her out. She has not taken care of business and I am sure there would be a warrant out for her arrest, but we live in different states.She is basically homeless, lives from friend to friend, she is 57 years old. My question is how can she rectify this situation? She doesn't hold a job. Can she offer community service to pay here debt? Do they charge interest when fines are not paid?Would the first step be to go to her local police office? She is in Fort Mohave Arizona. I am going to try and convince her that she needs to get this taken care of.

If she had said something right away, they may have worked with her.As it is, with her moving without permission and avoiding the issue, they will feel that there is only one choice.Tell your mother to be prepared for at least a year or more in jail.It may dry her out for a while and extend her life for a few more years.

She would be better off to surrender herself to the Police. They would help dry her out, and give her either work release to get a job and or give her time to sit it out behind bars. If she is Tribal, she has a better chance at a chance of rehabilitation.

She will have to spend time in jail if she can not pay the fine. It sounds like she would be better off there anyway. They will get her the help she needs and at the same time pay off her fines!
