Looking for a program that will allow me to see the desktop of network computers.?

I have a server in my house and I need a program that will allow me to see the desktop from another networked computer without plugging in my monitor. Also, if there is one that would allow me to interact with is then all the better. Thanks!

Install (if needed) and enable remote desktop connection on all of your XP desktop computers and that'll allow you to connect to them.

To see if RDC is installed, go to start ==> all programs ==> accessories (it might be in there, if not) ==> communications. If it's not installed, go to add / remove programs, then add/remove windows components to install it.

To enable RDC, right-click My Computer, then properties. In the pop-up window go to Remote and enable Remote Desktop.

To connect to the computer, you'll either need it's computer netbios name or IP address. Just open RDC on your server, then type in the netbios name or IP address, wait for it to connect and if a login prompt appears, enter that computer's local username and password account. Then it'll be just like you're working on that computer!

RDC is pretty awesome, I use it all the time at work to remotely administer our various servers. Makes life much easier!

What you are describing (I think) is Terminal Services or Remote Desktop Connections. These permit you to link the display and keyboard/mouse on one system as if you were sitting in front of the second.

tightVNC does exactly this and its free!!!! make sure you set a strong password though.)

www.tightvnc.org

Terminal Server or RDP sessions are OK too but often you have to logoof the user at the console to use these in a "non server" environment
