Sharing a printer on a xp computer with networked vista laptop?

I have a Epson C1100 connected to my desktop running xp, I have been sharing it with other computers in the house through network but when I try to connect with my vista laptop I get message "windows can not connect to the printer access denied" I can veiw shared files from xp to vista and both computers recognise each other, any ideas anyone??

Install vista drivers for printer and follow usual Printer Wizard to add the print queue at your Vista machine.

it's hard to pinpoint the exact issue here but make sure the Vista laptop is in the same workgroup and that it is set to a private network rather than a public network; I've had similar issues with Vista machines - in one case somehow the Vista machine wasn't in the same workgroup and in another case the firewall on the Vista machine, though allowing access to network resources, was blocking explorer.exe! I had to uninstall the firewall and then reinstall, monitoring every process that wanted access through the firewall in order to fix this issue. Merely allowing explorer.exe was unsuccessful.Try temporarily disabling any firewalls and see if you can access the printer. If problems persist and you can't resolve them, I'd suggest you try Network Magic which has a 7 day free trial. Good luck.

I had the same problem at home when I bought a vista laptop. I tried all of the things that have already been suggested and still... nothing. Finally I decided I'd try to hardwire the laptop and voila. As soon as I plugged the network cable in, it found the printer. Could be an isolated case. I was getting too fired up fooling with it to try anymore options once I got it to print anyway. I figure I have to walk to the printer for the printout, might aswell walk to it first and plug in.
