Where does it state in the Constitution that tax dollars can be given to

corporations or private business?
Other than to provide a service for the people.
gerafalo - The 16th amendment to the constitution.

Amendment XVI
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
"may enact laws as it sees fit to promote the well-being of the people governed thereunder"

Do you think that if corporations had higher taxes (and by the way, we have some of the highest corp taxes in the world) that they wouldn't offset that by charging more for their product?

Corp guys are nice guys now, is that what you are suggesting? They would gladly take the hit and accept lower profits?

Did you happen to see what year the 16th was ratified? The framers DID NOT write that!

In fact, the original income tax was struck down by the Supreme Court as being unconstitutional... which promoted the need for an amendment!

EDIT : The guy below me made a good point...
Social Security is not constitutional either... Nor is HHS [income redistribution] (which last year was more funded than defense!)

Jimmy Carter wasn't as dumb as people accused him of being. The 16th Amendment in the Constitution allowed for Jimmy to lend Chrysler Motors and Lee Iaccoca $ two billion for bailout, and it worked.

Those were simpler times, now weren't they !
