Credit Score Question?

My credit score is 579

I want to buy a house....and I need a good credit score. I have very little in debt and good salary...however I missed many payments and hence its badlya ffected my credit history.

Now that I plan to buy a home...I ahve realized what a mess I am in.

I now have to potponed to buy a house by 6-8 months. If I pay all my bills on times...clear off my debt and reduc accounts, how much can I improve my score in the next 6-8 months?
