People with disabilities in Canada?

what kinds of barriers to equality do disabled people in Canada still face todaymeaning people with mental and physical disabilites?
also does anyone know how disabled people were treated in the past in Canada as opposed to today, and any movements that helped their legal and social rights to be recognized in Canada? thanx, can you give me useful websites on it?

My wife is deaf and there is a shortage of sign language interpreters in smaller communities. Also it's much harder for deaf people to find work in a hearing world.

But I think these would apply to any country, not just Canada. On the whole Canada is still a great country to live in.

I live in Ontario and that's alot of questions to answer in one post.

Barriers- accessibility, physical barriers-ramp too steep, no braille on menus, signage is not always well displayed or in large enough letters, crosswalk lights are too quick, accessible transportation is not always available for spur of the moment trips, need to book days in advance , if there is a accessible bus and in smaller areas there often isn't.

Education, austic children are not getting the funding they need. Special ed aides are often cut as a frill when the boards of ed need to chop budgets.

Attitude of society , especially employers is a major hurdle. Many in society still think if you have one physical disability you have them all.

Mental health disabilites are still stigmatized in society.

Society doesn't understand the variations of autism.

If you want you can email me at my email address on my profile. Put disabilities in the subject line as my yahoo mail likes to put everything and everyone unknown in my bulk folder. I hope that will at least get you started.
