What kind of career will allow me to work hands-on with people with...

...disabilities like autism, ADHD, etc.? Is there a kind of therapist that works with these type of people? Im not talking about a typical psychologist. (From what I've heard, all they do is basically prescribe drugs and do surgery). What I want to do is more like a sort of hands-on, involved approach. I know I must sound kind of vague, but what kind of doctor does that, and how do I become one?

social workers
they don't have a doctor degree
but they usuallly work under psychologists for medication purposes
