We have a lot of friends, we socialize quite a lot. I recognize that the fact that we take the time to just sit over a cup of coffee or whatever and visit with our friends is pretty unique these days. I wish I had more time to spend doing it.

I think you have to look way back to the Industrial Revolution and the changes it brought in order to find the roots of it all.
I was considering this very thing the other day, looking at my own area, how it went from agricultural to a more suburban community in a short period of time.
Businesses became the major changing force, materialism promoted, inventions brought convenience and luxury, but also a separation...people used to sit on their porches, but moved inside with the coming of television. The children in our time no longer seem to engage each other in play-their faces are stuck into some D computer game or another.
The center of many a community was the local church, but even that has been under attack, especially from the public school system which teaches things contrary to the standard Christian beliefs. That being done, why would they even bother with church or a God they do not believe exists? To then it has become irrelevant.
I think what we are seeing is simply what results when people ignore God's warnings concerning materialism and unbelief.
