Does culture/society oppress women?

Do you think culture/the society we live in today affects women in a way that leads to oppression?? In other words, are women expected to act in certain oppressive ways to gain acceptance in society?

If possible, please back up your suggestions with examples.

No I don't think so. A lot of jobs that traditionally men do, I know of a lot of women who have made a career out of them. A mate of mine is a boiler maker. Try explaining that to someone who lives in the 1950's!?!?

But I have to say I don't agree. Some jobs are meant for women and some jobs are meant for men. By "men's" jobs I mean jobs that require heavy lifting, and a lot of physical body mass. Unless your a really butch woman I don't believe you could go out and do trades that require good strength because physically we are built to be much smaller than men!

And I don't believe female police officers should be doing many of the dangerous situations they are required to work in. If you get a 65kg woman, 165cm tall waving a gun in front of a complete male psycho who do you reckon is going to come out on top??

I think because of how badly women were mistreated years ago, women feel the need to prove that they are equal to men which is the wrong approach. Times have changed and most men do believe women are equal to them, so why go out and risk our health and lives to prove a point that has already been proven??
