Americanized is becoming like every other American, and dressing our clothes. naming your babies American names, eating American food, speaking perfect English and losing your own languages/accents. It means a lot.

I don't think everyone who immigrates to America totally abandons every aspect of their culture...Maybe it's more prevalent in the 2nd and 3rd, etc etc generation American-born because then the ties to their culture do fade away (unless there is alot of effort to maintain it).Your teacher sees Americanization as assimilation (abandonment of their culture... "BE AMERICAN"), but Americanization can ALSO be acculturation (the influence and mixture of their culture with American culture.. not total abandonment).

assuming the culture here, becoming like the people here and taking in the societal cues that make up this culture. However, you do not have to abandon your old culture. Irish people never did, neither did Italians. Fit in, but always remember your roots. It never said to drop your own-there are too many people here from way back that still adhere to their original cultural traditions now, so if they try to say otherwise, then by their own words, they too should be expelled from here! Fair is fair, after all. Just like when some rednecks say, 'Go back to your country'-I tell them, 'We were here first, so why don't you get the fuck back to where you came from and fuck off!'

Americanized means to be absorbed into the majority culture which we are all apart of regardless of where you come from. I t means to lean the language and assimilate to Americas ideals and principles like freedom of speech and all the rights that the Constitution stands for. If you don't believe in the Constitution go back to where you came from.
