| SOCIETY & CULTURE is all about being happy? I'm not usually annoyed by cheerful people unless they appear fake. Maybe this is just a teenager thing or a societal thing, why do people think since you're not so so cheerful you must be sad? It gets rather annoying. I do understand being around someone who does not smile too often can be a burden possibly but I'm not going to act excited for every little thing. "Oh my gosh i'm so happy i'm walking to class." I would not call myself happy nor sad. I'm just monotone & content. Anyways, in the end it only matters how i view myself. Anyhow, has anyone else been advised to be more peppy & cheerful just because you do not display your happiness? |

| I don't find it necessary to exude a certain level of happiness to appear polite... There is just a certain set of unwritten rules members of society are expected to obey. I agree with you that a complete stranger that appears overly excited to wait on you (i.e your grocery store checkout clerk or waitress) emits a certain level of fakeness, but who is it hurting to be friendly? It serves more of a purpose to smile at someone and tell them to have a nice day than to scowl at them. Nothing wrong with just being "mediocre" either. As long as you're polite, thats all that matters. |
