A question to Seniors citizens about life in America in the 1940s?

What was Entertainment like in the 1940s?
What did you do for entertainment in the 1940s?

Listen to the radio or go to a movie. Went to our cabin up north in the summer.

We made our own entertainment. Also listened to the big bands and orchestras like Benny Goodman, Kay keyser, Tommy Dorsey etc. Went fishing, ice skating roller skating and had good clean fun. Got in trouble too, just like some today. Mostly mischief. Times were good. Too bad they are gone forever. If you were not there, you missed a Lot.

I was just a kid during the war, so long car trips weren't possible. But we went to the mountains close by to camp or to my aunt's farm where there were orange groves. Uncle was head of the irrigation company and he turned on the water so we could slop around in the ditches, great fun, great meals, I grieve for the kids of today who have to make appointments to play.

My folks went to dances and played cards a lot. And an occasional movie. Lots of family time with extended family.

Entertainment in the '40's?
I had a small block of wood the fit perfectly in my tiny hand and I drove the "car" over a million miles when the weather permitted. If it was raining then I played paper dolls with my siblings. Our paper dolls came from the Sears catalog.
They were not ordered from the catalog they were cut out of the catalog.
