| What can I do for a Senior citizen neighbor?
Her husband died several months back and after the funeral she went to their second home in Florida. I want to do something special for her as she is returning very soon. I have been her neighbor since I was a kid and we were pretty close before my teenage years and adulthood. I am not able to go into her home, but an outdoor idea would be very nice!!! Thanks Not, that I can't go into her house when she is home, I mean since she is not there now I can't go in and do something. I want a kind of surprise for her. |

Maybe just some general yard clean up. Clear the gunk out of the street gutters, rake up any old leaves and just make things tidy. What about windows? Could you wash the outside of the house windows? A few small pots of blooming flowers would be nice too.

My 94 year old neighbor tells me when people spend time with her she feels she's still valued and is worthwhile. When your neighbor arrives call to welcome her and ask when she's up to a visit for dessert and coffee or tea. Tell how you've missed her and just want to catch up on life in general. Your time is the greatest gift you can give. |

you could clean up her yard or plant some flowers that you know she might like, but don't do to much as its not your property.. the best thing to do is just talk with her and continue to be her friend when she returns.

Depending on your budget, you could gift her with anything from patio furniture, potted plants, or even a new hose. The problem is that the existing hose might have some sentimental value attached to it. It's always better to give a "movable" object like a potted plant, so the living spouse can move it to a spot they prefer to have it in after they receive it. Even a little thing like a Hummingbird feeder or wind chime could bring some joy to your friend.

The thing about doing anything for anybody is to know what they want. You were given suggestions but no one suggested you find out what she wants or needs. How well do you know her, can you come out and ask? Can you observe and fill in where needed? You do not want your feeling hurt by you doing something that is not appreciated. |
