Most economical car for people with mobility disability ? A friend of mine has had multiple spinal operations and a hip replacement and they find it difficult to access and get out of low profile vehicles. They are also on a very tight budget as their disability have meant they have only a low paid job. What is the most economical and easy to use in terms of getting in and out vehicle (either 2nd hand or new) for someone in this position ?

My father in law got a Honda Odyssey when his wife and mother-in-law were both in wheelchairs. It has a low step in height, high ceilings, and plenty of space for wheelchairs, passengers, and other stuff. I don't know what it costs, but it's not too much. Plus, you may be able to get subsidies from social security or insurance if you're getting a car for that purpose.

I have arthritis in my knees and hips and had to get rid of my old car as it was too low for me to get in and out of. I now have a Suzuki Ignis and I love it. Easy to slip in and out of. Economical on fuel, cheap to buy but reliable. Has a narrow boot which might not suit some, but the floor of the boot is quite high up which makes it much easier to lift shopping and luggage in and out of. Volkswagen do a similar car, the Fox, but it's a little bit dearer and smaller. Reliable make though there are few second hand ones about as it's only about 2 years old. Some of the 'Which car' searches actually allow you to search for higher profile vehicles and if you email some of them with specific queries they can help. Motability might also be able to give some advice. Good luck.
