People with disabilities?

Can anyone tell me it all this "advance ment of society" (technology, education, law etc.) has really helped people with disablities. You her from the media how all this is just to help people with disabilities to have a better fuller life but is it really.

How has life differed for people with disabilities in the last 10 years, has it really changed at all?

My son had 3/5 of his hand cut off in a punch press accident in may07.He's trying out a mechanical hand that can hold a pencil so he can write again with his dominant hand.This is a trial hes in.This hand is not out in the general public yet.Its taking Alot of therapy for him to be this far.Since I think we're always working on an advancement to aid people with disabilities We as in the general public don't make things too easy for anyone.We teach,learn,force Independence on people now a days compared to 10 yrs ago I think.I know I push my son to do everything as normal as possible just in a different way.The general public needs independence why not the disabled?
