ps/2 Dance Mat?

Hi, i have just brought my a dance mat for ps/2 it's logic3 dance dance dance one. Anyway i also brought seperatly a ps/2 to usb adaptor so that i can use it on my laptop. However by trial and error really i found out that you need a ps/2 keyboard plugged into it for it to work. Is there any work around? I need help?
Otherwise it is useless to me, anybody want a new perfectly working pc dance mat, i have all connectors and works well with pc but i just want to use it on my laptop
