How to tie a braid (I have long hair) to the straps of tank top or dress?

I like to salsa dance but not hit guys in the face with my hair when I spin (or give myself whiplash for that matter). I saw Julianne Hough have her braid tied to one of the straps on a dress she wore and wondered how she did that. Can't do a regular ponytail...doesn't make sense to do it that way, safety pins are too small, etc. Thank you for any suggestions on how to do that!

How long is long? She could have very well had extensions put in, I'm thinking you can do a high ponytale a la Tomb Raider, and braid it all the way down, so that it swoops like a a candy cane.Instead of pulling it tightly to your shoulders give yourself enough length so that it swoops, than twist it around the strap of the dress, then hold it all down with a broach. If that doesn't work out do a braid starting from the nape of the neck and do the same swoop look...Otherwise I would suggest you style your hair into a chignon, I did balet for years and all the girls were required to have a bun.

I don't understand why you would want to tie your hair to your dress that does not seem very smart. Remember that Julianne Hough is a proffessional who has proffessional working on her hair and costumes. A lot of her hair styles consisted of extensions and clip ons. The hair is light and can easily be held with a clip to a small strap. If you hair is long and thick enough to hurt someone while you are dancing I dont think it would stay in place on a skinny strap. I would suggest doing a side part, braiding it, and the putting it into a bun. It looks classy and sexy. Although, if you really want to try clipping your hair to you strap use a small butterfly clip, do you remember those. I added a link below with picture. From the front of the braid, place the clip through the middle of your braid so you can hide it. Then clip the middle section of your hair to the strap. If your hair is heavy try a couple. Your hair will have to be thick enough to hide them though.
