Lyrical dance??

I've never taken any dance classes before, but I've always wanted to, so I decided I'm gonna sign up for a dance school. The one I want to go to starts in September, but they say you have to be intermediate or advanced to join the lyrical dance classes, and you should have ballet/jazz training. However, the classes are kind of expensive and I can only take either jazz OR ballet. Which one should I do? Also, the classes run from September to June; how long does it take to get to intermediate or advanced? Is it ...a 1 year thing? Or like 5 years?
