Do you think Democratic party mainstream is too conservative?

This is a question for anyone who identifies as center or left of center: do you believe that the main leadership of the Democratic Party is too conservative? I certainly do. I wish Obama and Clinton had not made the tax pledge because I think the only way to balance the budget AND increase the social safety net is to tax the upper middle class somewhat more (100-200k annual income) combined with big tax hikes on the super-wealthy.

I also think not enough emphasis is given on rebuilding the private-sector labor union movement and restricting CEO salaries. I would also like to see public jobs programs for the inner cities - places where private employers haven't been lured, so have the public step in with work relief.

What are your views on these four issues - taxes, social services, unions and public works programs? What one thing would you change about the Democratic Party?

NO RIGHT WING TROLLS ARE ALLOWED TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION!!!

No. I think they are too neoconservative (liberal-ish). It has come to a point where the establishment Republicans and establishment Democrats are the same. There is almost no difference between them. They all have said that they will not end the war in Iraq, they all are for amnesty and open borders, they are all forcing the man-made global warming BS down our throats, they are all spending way too much money that we don't have, they are all expanding the federal government and centralizing power to DC, they are all for gun
control, they are all pushing for a police state in the US and interventionist and imperial wars all over the world, they are all leaving the federal income tax, the IRS, and the Federal Reserve intact.

There is hardly any real conservatism in the government these days.

yes, the Democratic Party allays has been right wing, if you want to see what liberals party's are like you should look towards Europe(England,France). The democratic party are more right wing than what we in England consider to be the right wing party.

I consider myself to be in the center and I don't think the Democrats are't conservative enough on some issues.

Taxes will be raised on the 100k to 200k tax bracket if the Democrats win because they will raise the limit on payroll taxes which currently are taxed up to 102000. The FICA and Medicare taxes are a more certain way to raise revenue because they cannot be wiped out by a clever accountant.

I think raising the capital gains tax is a mistake because when Clinton lowered it revenue went up and then when Bush lowered it again revenue when up a again. This is a tax that should not be tinkered with just for the sake of ideology. The only way working people will get ahead is by investing and making gains on their capital.

I agree that the union movement needs to be rebuilt and CEO salaries are out of control, however the most pressing problem is the disappearance of manufacturing jobs. We need a leader that would dissuade Americans from buying so many imported goods.

The Democratic party is comprised of too many conflicting interest groups. Democrats are in bed with the trial lawyers and yet they want to fix health care. Health care will not be fixed if it is taxed by the tort lawyers. I think the only viable universal health care plan is a copy of the Canadian system and I don't see any of the current candidates delivering that, or any plan that would disenfranchise the lawyers.

The extreme environmentalist wing of the Democratic party is at odds with the labor movement. One reason jobs move overseas is because it is easier to site a factory in China or Mexico.

Rather than "make work" public works we could put people to work building refineries and power plants, including N plants.

I personally would be inclined to belong to a labor party whose interests would be at odds with a green party. I would like to see a return of logging and mining on federal land.

I voted for Kerry in the last election, mainly because he was not George Bush. I am inclined to vote for McCain this time.
