A lot of conservatives have been using this quote. Why is it wrong? First i've heard Winston Churchill given credit for that, and I don't come by the saying much but I've heard a variation of it.Basically it just suggests that when your young, you have new ideas, your ignorant of the world around you so you have no idea what has been tried in the past, your not all that up on history, you don't know what's worked or what's failed, who was in charge or who even brought it up. You go by your "gut feeling" or emotion or perhaps are niave enough to think it looks good on paper and should work. That takes heart to get up and be full of energy and put things forward, especially when you might be dead wrong in the light of reality or judgement of history. On the other hand, and I think its a shame, there's not enough "pressure" by a country to make everyone grow up and face reality. Too many times I have encounted people that think what they think, and know what they know, but have no clue that history has already proven them wrong. So if you grow up, and haven't learned from your mistakes, haven't learned from others mistakes. too dim witted to apply cause and effect of the major movements and idea's that have surfaced in America enough to know what at least doesn't work and shouldn't be tried again....that's when you have no brain.I use to think this applied mostly exclusively to the left. John McCain has recently proven me wrong. Now all I can do is hope the infection isn't all that bad on the right, or that we can amputate it. Because there is NO science proving global warming and he's pitched his tent for it., but there's alot of evidence proving it isn't a problem at all. So basically we are messing up people's lives, their livelihood and forcing policy change on the masses for a hoax. If your "good intentions" are stealing out of my wallet, I want the right to take it back in the future decades with interest when its proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to be a hoax.

A lot of conservatives have been using this quote. Why is it wrong? The truth is that many old people are easily tricked into believing that republicans will cut off their entitlements and that things like SS were ever intended to be a complete retirement package- it wasntWhen you are older you vote for freebies because it isnt you paying and you believe you've earned it for one reason or another

A lot of conservatives have been using this quote. Why is it wrong? In modern times, the propaganda machine has turned young minds into pseudo-conservatives by making them hate older people. A true conservative would revere older people as a source of knowledge and experience.Doubt this? Read joker's post. For everyone's sake I hope HE never gets to be an older person. And I hope that happens soon. And thumbs up for the folks that know Churchill did not say this or anything like it. I've heard some attribute the quote to Mark Twain, and that is equally bogus. Twain became a progressive in his old age.

A lot of conservatives have been using this quote. Why is it wrong? Being a Democrat is all about as little personal responsibility as possible.Being a Democrat is all about letting go of the responsibility for personal decision making and turning your life and decision making power to the government.Being a Democrat is expecting the government to provide and make any decisions regarding food, shelter, clothing (if possible) and healthcare in their lives.Being a Democrat is all about burying one's head in the sand and trading certain liberties to the "nanny" state in order to achieve a small amount of security without effort or ambition. Therefore"A lot of the elderly have frittered away a lot of the opportunities in their lives and now feel they have no other avenue in their lives except to be wards of the state.I hope this helps.

A lot of conservatives have been using this quote. Why is it wrong? Well, for starters, many consider this quote to be misattributed (that is, he never said it even though many people think he did - link below)Secondly, just because a famous person said something, doesn't make it true. Sometimes a person can be famous, brilliant, popular, and completely wrong. For example, Albert Einsteins quote that "God does not play dice with the universe" has generally been considered incorrect in light of ongoing research into quantum mechanics.
