| Why is there support in the African American community for the Democratic party
over the Republican party? Historically, anytime something of large relevance has occured that bolstered the African-American community, it has been done through Republicans. I am not just talking about freeing the slaves through Lincon but am referring to incidents like appointing cheif justices, giving rights to votes, and other real important issues. The Democratic party seems to push for welfare and other programs that they claim helps the underprivelaged (I am not saying all black people are underprivilaged or on welfare, so don't try to put those words in my mouth) in poverty stricken areas, but these makes it seem like getting a low paying job is a waste of time. You need to get a low paying job to get experience and move up in the working world, but the existance of the programs started by the Democrat party actual keeps poverty in stagnation. So, why the support for them? Note - I hate Republican and Democratic parties equally, this subject just kind of makes no sense to me..... |

even though the republicans supported the civil rights act in higher numbers than the democrats, blacks hate southern white people. southern white people vote republican, so blacks vote the opposite. years ago southern whites actually were southern democrats, so blacks voted republican. whatever whites do, they do the opposite and consider anyone that supports republicans to be racist pigs.

There is so much support among blacks for the Democratic party because 50 years ago when the Civil Rights Movement started it was Northern Democrats like Hubert Humphrey who joined Southern black leaders in the cause (remember, as early as 1948 Humphrey pushed for a civil rights agenda as part of the Democrats' platform). Southern Democrats were so disgusted with this that they bolted to the Republican party around the mid-60s. At the very least, that is the origin of the widespread support black Americans have for the Democratic party.

Uh, the Voting Rights and Civil Rights Acts were LBJ's -- a democrat. In general, Republicans have fought equal rights and opportunities. The "welfare" stuff you write assumes that there are enough jobs for everyone, which there aren't, and enough GOOD jobs to move in to, which there aren't. Humans think it's wrong for people to starve, just because they can't find work. People who find nothing wrong with small children starving to death are not entirely human. |
