| Is this story a classic example of the differences between the Republican and Democratic parties?
One morning, Joe, an owner of a small HVAC business, was talking with his college age daughter about how it was going for her at school. Cindy was telling her dad about how she was so involved in the Obama campaign and went to all of his rallies. She was talking about how there really needed to be more of a "change”, especially in increasing welfare for the poor which of course, as Cindy said, it would have to mean higher taxes, that we all have to give away what we work for to the benefit of others. Her dad, a life long Republican, listened with intense interest to what his daughter was telling him. When she was done, he asked her how was school itself? Her class work and such? She said she had a 4.0 average, and was doing really well. That her classes were really difficult, but she was still able to maintain a high average because she works so hard. Joe then asked her how her roommate Pam was doing. Cindy then proceeded to tell her father that Pam wasn't doing so well. She could barely keep a 2.0 average, never studied and was always out late with her friends partying and running with the boys. Not ever seeming to care about her grades. Complaining that it was a waste of time anyway. After Cindy was done, her dad asked her if she thought that maybe if it could be done, maybe she ought to give Pam, her roommate, one of her GPA points, that way they would both have a 3.0, therefore, EQUAL. Cindy went off in a tirade. She told her dad how unfair that would be. That she works really hard to maintain her GPA, staying up late at night studying. She said that what she works for she should be able to keep. That it wouldn’t be fair to give it someone that didn’t even try to help themselves. So at that, Joe replied, “welcome to the Republican Party”. loutejada?? 1. ""What about the single mom that has to work 2 jobs minimum salary to keep her family afloat."" I watched my very own sister do just that with two kids. She refused ANY kind of welfare, including help from us, her family, and came out on the other side just fine. 2. ""What about people who lost their jobs?"" Get another one. I've lost jobs before, and found another. Maybe not what I really wanted but I still worked and had a regular paycheck. 3. ""What about people who do not have enough money to feed their children because of rising food prices?"" I never said get rid of ALL financial assistance. However, refer to rebuttal number 1 for more insight. 4. ""What about the senior citizen who can't afford their medicine?"" Hmmm. My mother and step dad are squeaking by on SSI and food stamps, yet they ALWAYS manage to afford their medicine. Either through medicare programs or other programs put out by pharmaceutical companies and retailers. |
