Is the democratic race splintering the party?

As contentious as the race for the nomination between Clinton and Obama is... will it splinter the party too severely to have a chance at winning the White House?
I think it could go either way...
The problem, as I see it... The cons have a pretty good library of smear prepackaged by the dems against each other...

And I think the "divided america" theme will be a very strong message for the Republicans.

Just a thought.
Should be interesting either way...

VOTE RON PAUL!

No.

If anything, the Republican Party is in threat of more of a split. Dobson and other religious leaders are threatening a boycot of the election if McCain is nominated because he isn't a conservative Christian.

Not at all. Once the candidate is chosen (probably by next Wednesday), I think you'll find the Dems solidly in support of whoever wins between Hillary and Obama.

No. Both candidates have very similar agendas. You are thinking this is a popularity contest. It is much deeper than that when it comes to the general election. A party splinters over issues, not the people running for office themselves.

No, not at all. I think there is a healthy contest between two strong candidates. It is mobilizing Democrats with excitement like I've never seen before. People want to make it into a fractious thing but I don't see it. Except for those two idiots who got into a knife fight over it.

No, I don't think it will. The party will stand behind whoever gets the nomination.

I think it might.
If Hillary doesn't win this Tuesday then maybe not. If Hillary wins Texas and Ohio, pundits are saying the party bigwigs will still step in and ask her to bow out so that a nominee can be declared quickly.
I think if this happens there will be dissension in the party.

Hillary's base are proven Democratic voters but many are likely to turn to McCain if she is taken out of the race.

Obama has built up a new, energetic base and the pollsters say they will think (whether true or not) that if Hillary wins the nomination it will be because of politics as usual.
The acrimony Obama voters have for Hillary is starting and comes from his campaign itself.

What people are failing to see is that, unlike the Republican race, millions of people are voting for each candidate, now Obama might still be winning but even losing Hillary has more people voting for her than the Republican candidate (in some states).
That's a lot of people.
