Sounds crazy but...could this actually be healthy for the Democratic Party? These divisions have been simmering since the liberal hippie movement in the 1960's. They are the ones that cost us our strength in the south and chased many working class democrats to the GOP. Our party isn't just split between 2 candidates, it's split philisophically and it has cost us deerly over the last 40 years. It's the reason we've had weak candidates like Mike Dukakis and John Kerry. It seems anytime the liberal, yuppie side wins out, we lose....

But for the 1960s movement there would have been no equal opportunity , medicare etc. There would have been a split in any event. Problem now is the candidates seeking the nomination both leave much to be desired. How could anyone sit for 20 years listening to a pastor denigrate the US and ignore it, unless they agreed with what was said. The other candidate is simply a more of the same Washington politician. Loyal democrat, faced with this forced to voite Republican. We won with Clinton and he left a big surplus which Bush wasted, but you are correct the working class did go Republican but would undoubtedly come back this election but for the candidates. Al Gore perhaps as a compromise?

Interesting..... But, the Republican party has splintered too....the ultra conservatives are seething that McCain, a moderate is the nominee..... Maybe it is finally time that the parties can move past the extreme factions of the left or right, and focus on the issues....in the middle...where most of us dwell.
