has anybody had there dental brace off earlier than first estimated?

i was told i wud have my brace on for approx 12-18 mths then 18-24 when they were put on, every person i have spoke to that have or had braces always have had the brace on longer than estimated never shorter. this is depressin me as i have only gone 6 mths so far and absolutely hate them.
