| Poor dental hygiene, how do I tell my husband he needs to brush?
My husband and I have been married for just over 3 years and I noticed probably a little over a year ago that he wasn't brushing his teeth in the mornings. I never said anything but on occasion he would mention that he was brushing after he got to work. He changed jobs last summer and now works from home so home is the only place he can brush and he never brushes his teeth in the mornings or during the day. He does sometimes brush at night before bed but if he gets sleepy which happens every night around 8 pm and he begins to fall asleep in his chair he will get up and he goes straight to the bed never stopping in the bathroom to brush. He is too lazy to do it and has gone a week before without brushing. I am completely turned off by him not brushing and have found myself staying up later than him on purpose to a avoid having sex. This is coming between us and I don't know what to do. Thanks for all of your replies....some added details. I did buy us both fancy electric toothbrushes which he used (at night only) religiously at first. I bought these about 4 months ago and I have been through 3 different heads already, he is still on his first. I guess the new wore off. |

make him a dental appointment and have the dental hygienist tell him he has gingivitis and needs to brush and floss everyday. I had a 20 + year old guy as a patient last week that I could smell the infection through my mask. I diplomatically told him his girlfriend may not want to kiss him and that if I didn't tell him who would? He was grateful. GOOD LUCK! |

Sometimes in marriage, you have to say "honey, I know this may hurt your feelings but you have got to brush your teeth." then you might add "they have to last you the rest of your life and you need to take care of them" if it hurts his feelings, it's okay it will probably cause him to start brushing his teeth. If he just isn't getting it you might then tell him you are really turned off by his lack of oral hygiene.

put a tooth brush on his pillow maby he'll get the hint if it's sticking to the side of hes head lol do that till he starts brushing or askes you about it, or you could do it the easy way and just tell him, if i had bad breth i'd want someone to tell me

It' simple... take a big bite of onion and then breath on him.. when he says what the hell ? you tell him..that's what it's like with you all of the time... green teeth he'll figure it out... or... you could tell all of his friends he doesn't brush... I guarantee he does then . |

The best way to resolve this is have a heart-to-heart talk. Let him know that you feel very uncomfortable about his poor dental hygiene. Give him scenarios when you felt the most embarrassed about it, like when you two go out to a social outting or something. Let him know that it is okay to see a dental hygienist. If his habits don't change, give him the benifit of the doubt. If he doesn't change, you may have to leave. Not to be mean, but he needs to brush, floss and rinse every day and night because that is nasty for you not to keep your mouth in great health.
