When I was first diagnosed in 1984, they were still doing urine tests because BG meters weren't quite out there yet. The problem is that it is not "real time", it is a good 2 hours or more after the fact. So if it says you're 150, that was a couple of hours ago. You might be 90 or 300 now. So it was pretty worthless especially for Type 1's that fluctuate so quickly. Finger stick blood tests are still a little behind, but only about 5 minutes or so.
