I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with both of my children. What she eats before or after the test will not be the cause of it. However if the 3 hour test is positive they will have her meet with a dietitian that will go over a meal plan and possibly give her a kit to check her blood sugar and track it after each meal...at least that is what I had to do. This is to ensure the baby does not have diabetes at birth or that your baby grows normally in the womb..babies with diabetes are sometimes larger in weight at birth but their organs aren't completely or fully development..which of course can cause premature birth. Both of my children were fine and I even cheated a little on the diet plan set up for me. You can't tell a pregnant woman to lay off the sweets! lol I wouldn't be worried if I were you, if she goes with the suggestion of the Doctor after the test, she and baby will be fine! |
