The peeing out of the box will stop when the diabetes is somewhat controlled. At this time he may not be anle to help it. Are you hometestng? it is the only way to know if it is safe to give insulin as well as giving you the info needed to treat this correctly. I can teach you how, Are you feeding low carb canned foods? dry food is the number 1 reason that cats get diabetes in the first place. You do not need or want to feed MD DM or especially wd. Contact me if you need some help with this

Be sure box is kept clean. Have you changed to a different litter, or using a new cleaner to clean the box - sometimes they don't like that or the cleaners are toxic (lysol, pinesol, etc.) Maybe she prefers lower sides or no hood, etc. Or could be she just can't hold it so long - gets close & can't hold it due to her diabetes. I suggest getting doggie wee-wee pads & putting one there at her box where she goes - you may have to use a bit of double stick carpet tape to hold it since cats often scratch when they go. Good luck w/your kitty.

I'm so sorry to hear that your YOUNG cat has diabetes. 4 yrs seems so young for this disease! I have a 13 yr old male, that was diagnosed in Aug of '06. He's on insulin twice a day, and is doing pretty good...........
****
I have no idea what kind or size your litter box is, but..........

1. some cats do NOT like covered litterboxes and won't go into one.......
2. maybe you need to change the type (brand) of litter.....
3. maybe your litterbox is too small?

My solution to these problems was........Got a 60 qt Rubbermaid container (left lid off), put 4" ScoopAway litter in the bottom, and the cats all love it.

This container is 15" wide, 21" long and a little over 12" tall. So there's plenty of room, and the cat doesn't feel trapped, AND doesn't hang over the side!!

This container is "clear", so the "cat in the pan" can see through and over, while doing his/her "business".

I got mine at Walmart, but I'm sure they're at other places, too.

Hope this helps........
