tnb1984 has a spectacular aura about
Is depression (with diabetes) worth medicating?

My daughter is 16, she was diagnosed in 4/2004, as a Type 1. She still has not completely accepted it, she doesn't want to talk about it, she doesn't want to discuss it with anyone, she breaks down (in tears) when we have to meet with her Dr.'s or a Nutritionist, or an Educator. Her last A1C was bad, 12.2 ... so she is being bombarded with "do this & do that" ... all her previous A1C's were much better, between 6 to 9's. Everyone tells her this is just in "a temporary glitch ... it will get better." She says "what's the point?" "it's hopeless" she says she "can't do anything right" she's says she's "a loser" no matter how hard we tell her SHE'S NOT She's an emotional wreck. She is seeing a counselor ~ we've asked if she wants to change to a new one, she says no. We are sick with worry. If she can get her blood sugar levels down, will she feel better??? Or should we try to get her on some kind of medication? She's afraid of getting diabetes complications.
She does see her Endocronologist 4 x a year. We email her weekly. She saw a Nutrionist & Educator this past week. She is VERY WELL taken care of.

Pangel - many paths has a spectacular aura about
((((HUGS)))) to you both

people with diabetes do have moments of depression , due to their sugar levels and yes if they come down it will help
and many diabetics do feel like a failure ( it seems to go with the illness )

however , it is a horrible vicious circle
to get her sugar levels down , she will think you are on her case about it
which will make her irritated again
but if you don't get on her case about it , they wont come down and her mood swings will continue

with respect ....I think that your daughter needs to take more control of HER life
that she needs to start taking responsibility for her blood sugar levels in order to prevent the complications she is so worried about
so I am thinking a little tough love is needed , and that is going to be difficult for both of you

you know your daughter best , and how to word this
I wish you both well and hope things start to improve for you guys xx
