| It does run in families but it can also be unique. No one is fated to get either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. The chances of getting either type depends on a lot of factors, a close relative is just one. For type 2 diabetes being overweight is the leading factor, but leading a sedentary lifestyle can also contribute. Your itchy skin may not be at all related to diabetes. Since it has gone on so long you should have it looked at and be sure to tell the doctor your dad has diabetes and which type. Since your dad has diabetes use his meter and check your blood sugar. He should be able to tell you when and what reading mean. |

| no way. there is only a 3 % chance of a being born with diabetes when the mother is diabetic....and if the mother AND father are diabetic there is only a 7% chance of the baby having it....so no worries : ) they could develop later in life, but that would be the same even if you arent diabetic..... I'm diabetic and all the doctors have given me all the statistics and telling me about all their patients for almost 15 years now. and also...i never had itchy skin as a symptom, but maybe some people do. thirst, hunger, frequent urination, and weight loss are typically the symptoms of type 1. type 2 is usually due to high weight. good luck! |
