first thing I did when I found out was CRIED! haha, they gave me an entirely new diet to switch to and it really didn't seem like it would be possible to switch that easy. Plus theres all the worry about how it would affect the baby. Well, I went head first into this new diet and up until the last month of pregnancy it worked really well to control my blood sugars. The last month of so my sugars began to go up again (which they usually do towards the end of pregnancy) so I had to give myself insulin shots every day. When my baby girl was born the nurses who checked her blood said there was no evidence at all that I had GD and that I did a great job controlling my diet. After the birth she was fine, I was fine and my blood sugars returned to normal : ) All in all, it really wasn't that bad. Remembering to check your sugars constantly was the toughest part. The diet was as bad as I thought it would be, the testing doesn't hurt, the Insulin shots are more of a pinch than anything and I only ended up gaining 3 lbs throughout because of the new very healthy diet I was on. So good luck : ) but even if you end up having it, its not the end of the world : ) oh, and btw, I'm 18 weeks preggers with #2 and have been testing my sugars since I found out I was preg. Looks like I have it again, and it really doesn't bother me at all this time : )
