Can anyone give me any random facts on Type 1 diabetes?

I was diagnosed two years ago during the summer. I now feel comfortable enough to make an essay on it for class, but am having trouble finding any interesting facts on the subject.
Any information will be highly appreciated!

I found a lot of good info on this site. If you've been researching the internet then you have probably seen this already, but the links have statistics and exact number figures for almost every question.
A good word of advice, eat good and you will live long and happy. I was born with type 1 and Im almost old now lol.
Here's an interesting fact too. Diabetics tend to have far less cavities than people without Diabetes.

It's an auto-immune disease, meaning the body attacked itself. With diabetes type 1 the body killed off the cells that make insulin (a chemical one needs to stay alive) and now the person has to take insulin.
