Gestational Diabetes..?

I just had my glucose screening and the result was 163. I know it isn't supposed to be anymore than 140 and if you are over 200 you are automatically considered to have GD. I'm going to have my 3hr glucose tolerence test this coming week and I was wondering if others could post some of their results from the first test and the outcome (GD or not?) And if 163 is considered really high.. because it feels like I might fail this one too.. : /

Thanks for all the answers.

Don't think of it as failing a test. My sister has had gestational diabetes 2 times (maybe 3), and she definitely feels better, and looks better when she gets started on the diabetic diet and regular exercise. GD when it is not controlled is bad for your baby, and makes you feel tired and yuck. Good luck.

the higher it is above the normal limits the more likely the 3 hr test will come back high as well. If you fail the 3 hr test you will be labeled as having GD. My 1 hr with my first son was 146 and I passed my 3 hr test. My 1 hr with my second son however was 170 and I failed my 3 hr test and had to battle to keep my levels in a more normal range for the remainder of the pregnancy. I got lucky and diet change worked ok for me but some end up on pills or shots which only help the mother not the baby. Just make sure to get rest the night before the test, don't drink or eat anything before going to bed, you want to fast for 12 hrs prior to the test. Try to eat protein during the day before and not a whole lot of sugar. Although they say don't change your diet the day before because then they can't actually see how you react with your normal diet you could still do it and see how it turns out. Me I didn't eat much at all before my 3hr test and still failed it. My levels were around 180 during the rest of my pregnancy as long as I watched what i ate.

My test results were around 175 first hour and then on the three hour test my 1st result was 214 and lowered from there the next hour but not near enough i didnt even have to stay the next hour they diagnosed me with Gestational diabetes, they set me up on a diet and I had to check my sugar every few hours. They say it is supposed to be less than 100 when fasting (just waking up) and if it goes past 130 it is considered high although not too high if that makes sense. Mine had been as high as 253 of not higher. Since diabetes runs in my family and the fact that i was having dizzy and weakness spells I was tested at 12 weeks pregnant. I was finally put on medicine but they waited too late for it to really conrol anything--i was 37 weeks when they decided I needed medication, neway.... 163 is high it should really remain around 100. I had a horrible pregnancy, I hope you dont have this, it makes the baby bigger and I was in much pain, my son was born 9 pounds 1 ounce and was breech--painful. He had low blood sugar when he was born. If you try to control this and eat right you will make it through but your baby might still be bigger than normal. I hope everything works out and if you have any more questions feel free to email me.
