| How dose Diabetes affect a unborn babys weight during prenancy? Today I went to the Doctors for a sonogram , I am suppose to be 25 weeks in to my pregnancy but the doctor told me the baby weights 2 pound which will make me 27 weeks pregnant. The doctor said they have to run a sugar test to see if I have diabetes. Will diabetes make my baby bigger or smaller then what he is suppose to be? and How dose diabetes affect a unborn baby's weight during prenancy?      |

| I just got done with my sugar test. Gestational diabetes makes for a bigger baby 9-10lbs. This can have complications such as birth injury and/or need for cesarean section. Also, if your blood sugar is constantly high, upon birth the baby may go hypoglycemic, unable to compensate for the quick sugar loss when separated from you. I'm SO sorry you have to take the test. To be frank it stinks. You have to fast and then drink the NASTIEST sugary drink ever in five minutes. You can't puke or it's all wasted and then you have to have blood drawn in an hour. If you fail the first test (which I did) you have to fast for longer and have blood drawn once initially before the gross drink and then every hour for three hours!  It's good to know though...sugar control through diet/meds can really help your and your baby's health...P.S. if you do have it you are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes later in life. |

| Diabetes will make your baby bigger in weight. A lot of women who have gestational diabetes have babies that are 9 or 10 pounds. It's important that they find out so that they can start treating the diabetes and get it under control. |

| usually it makes the baby too big, this is for type 1 and 2 diabetes and also gestational. but my friend had gestational diabetes and had a 6 lb baby girl, my brother's wife had a baby girl (my niece  )and she weighed an healthy but average 8 lbs. |
