When I was sent for my 1 hour test, I wasn't allowed to eat anything after midnight the night before, but maybe every body tests differently?? Anyways, you need to fast for the 3 hour test. Not fasting will alter the results, and gestational diabetis is not threatening to the baby IF caught and TREATED. If you eat to alter the results, you are doing your unborn baby no favors. Think of it as your cross to bear...12 hours will seem long, sure, but it will be worth it to have a healthy baby. Won't it? 193 is high, even with a bowl of frosted shredded wheat...you need to find out what's going on. Hopefully, everything will come back fine...good luck!

Gestational Diabetes?

Okay I took the 1 hour test when I was 25 weeks pregnant and passed. But my midwife wanted me to take it again. I had a big whopping bowl of frosted mini wheats before I went into for another 1 hour test and it came back really high like 193. Now I am scheduled for a 3 hour test. Is there any way I can pass it? I'm not supposed to eat or drink anything past 8pm. What am I going to do? I get shaky and sweaty just after not eating for 6 hours, how am I going to last 12?
I have hypoglycemia. When I am low on sugar, I get real dizzy and shaky all over. I start to swoon real bad too.

It's very possible that you will pass the test. I had a result in the 170s on my 1 hr test, and passed my 3 hr test. It helps if the test is in the morning, so you will be sleeping and not hungry for most of those 12 hours.

Best of luck with everything & take care!

I have been in your situation. The best advice I can give you is to go to the blood lab FIRST THING in the morning. Also, ask your doctor if it's really 8pm that your cut off time is. Because I was told to not eat past 10 or 11pm or to atleast make sure you ate a few hours before you went to sleep.

You'll probably be fine, but...if you do have GD you definitely want to know so that your baby isn't harmed. So, try to go to bed early, my doc let me have ice chips, and maybe sleep in a bit. Do as well as you can. Good luck!

consider the risk to yourself and the baby if you don't "last" the 12 hours. You may want to talk to a dr. about getting shaky and sweaty from going 6 hours without food. Iv'e been pregnant three times and never felt that way. I had my third baby at 25 weeks and I can tell you that there is nothing as sad as seeing a baby that small who has can't breath, eat, or cry. Not to mention everything that goes with it-the blood transfussions, brain bleeds, ... You really need to consider the baby and his/her health over your discomfort from going half a day without food.
